Topological Cohen–Macaulay criteria for monomial ideals

Scattered over the past few years have been several occurrences of simplicial complexes whose topological behavior characterize the Cohen–Macaulay property for quotients of polynomial rings by arbitrary (not necessarily squarefree) monomial ideals. It is unclear whether researchers thinking about this topic have, to this point, been aware of the full spectrum of related developments. Therefore,...

Integral Closures of Cohen-macaulay Monomial Ideals

The purpose of this paper is to present a family of CohenMacaulay monomial ideals such that their integral closures have embedded components and hence are not Cohen-Macaulay.

Bases and Ideal Generators for Projective Monomial Curves

In this article we study bases for projective monomial curves and the relationship between the basis and the set of generators for the defining ideal of the curve. We understand this relationship best for curves in P and for curves defined by an arithmetic progression. We are able to prove that the latter are set theoretic complete intersections.

Projective Resolutions of Cohen-Macaulay Algebras

The problem of explicitly finding a free resolution, minimal in some suitable sense, of a module over a polynomial ring is solved in principle by the algorithm of Hilbert [H]. However, this algorithm is of enormous computational difficulty. If the module happens to be finite dimensional over the ground field, and if the module structure is given by specifying the commuting linear transformation...

The space of Cohen-Macaulay curves

In this thesis we discuss a moduli space of projective curves with a map to a given projective space P. The functor CM parametrizes curves, that is, Cohen-Macaulay schemes of pure dimension 1, together with a finite map to P that is an isomorphism onto its image away from a finite set of closed points. We proof that CM is an algebraic space by contructing a scheme W and a representable, surject...
